Suggest Treatment For Anorexia With Anxiety

I am a recovered anorexic with a strict schedule regime that will keep me eating. My flare up occurred worst when I was on the morning shift at my job because of how awkward the hours are. For two weeks I will be filling in for the morning shift a couple days out of the week but I need to explain to my boss that I cannot do it this coming Monday because I will have to do it the Tuesday right after which will really throw me off and give me anxiety which I already have with the days I have agreed to work the shift. Will anxiety induced relapse be a decent enough excuse to confront her with this matter?

I THINK IT IS BETTER TO BE HONEST WHILE TALKING TO YOUR BOSS ABOUT THIS SHIFT BEING UNSUITABLE FOR U.AND ALSO, INSTEAD OF CONFRONTING HER, I SUGGEST THAT A SINCERE AND POLITE REQUEST WILL BE MORE DESIRABLE. U CAN EXPLAIN THAT U ARE IN THE PROCESS OF RECOVERING FROM ANOREXIA AND U HAVE TO FOLLOW A STRICT DIETARY REGIME. ANY ANXIETY CAN MAKE YOUR SYMPTOMS RE-SURFACE.

ANOTHER SUGGESTION- PL DO NOT THINK OF IT AS AN EXCUSE IN UR MIND BUT AS A VALID REASON. I THINK IF FRAMED IN THE RIGHT WORDS AND COMMUNICATED PROPERLY, IT SHOULD BE GOOD ENOUGH TO EXEMPT YOU.

Depending on how flexible your employer is and how much she knows about your condition, if you explain the circumstances that increase your anxiety (change in schedule or shift), she should be able to offer you some kind of accommodation. I feel like the best route when approaching your employer with a work-related issue is to explain your problem and then offer a solution. At times, employees approach their boss with a situation that sounds like a "complaint" and don't offer any way to solve the issue. This may cause the employer to react negatively or brush you off, since your boss probably receives many complaints per day from employees, customers, clients, etc. However, if you explain your situation, followed by a solution for your problem or a suggestion of a possible solution, you are showing your boss that you want to cooperate and resolve the issue. For example, explain to your boss that the morning shift is difficult for you on that day (Monday), but you would be happy to work the afternoon or evening shift. Also, you could offer to cover the afternoon or evening shift of one of your co-workers another day. Think about different options you can offer to your boss to show her that you want to be as flexible as possible with working shifts, but that particular day is difficult for you. If you are still not successful, then your next best option would be to get a doctor's note (from a therapist/psychologist or maybe even your family physician) explaining that your anxiety increases significantly after working the morning shift for more than one day or for several days in a row. The note can also describe that due to certain health conditions, you must adhere to a prescribed eating/meal schedule and working certain times of day makes it difficult for you to maintain your meal schedule. Remember that you do not have to go into too much detail when discussing health conditions with your boss. I wish you best of luck and I hope you are able to reach a middle ground with your boss. It is not uncommon for people to have difficulty with changing shift schedules. Everyone is different and we all have times of day where we function better and are more productive.
