Suggest Treatment For Achalasia When Diagnosed With Type 2 Diabetes

I was diagnosed with Achalasia and have failed the Botox treatment. Now I am advised to undergo either a Hellers myotome or POEM. Which procedure would you suggest or recommend. I am 44 years of age and I have a well controlled type 2 DM and well controlled hypertension? Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Heller’s surgery will be a better choice. POEM procedure may cause recurrence of disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
