Suggest Treatment For Accidental Consumption Of Ibuprofen By A 3 Year Old

Hi. My 3 year old (27lb weight) may have eaten an 800mg ibuprofen. Side effects? We think she spit it all out, which she says she did. We did in fact get the almost whole pill out of her mouth, but we want to make sure she didn t swallow any others or pieces of the one she had in her mouth to begin with. She chewed a little of it before spitting it out into my husbands hand. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory medication. If she chewed a little of it and split out the rest, probably there is nothing to be worried about. Only in case that she might have breathing difficulties, you should go at the emergency room for evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
