Suggest Treatment For A Wound On The Knee

I injured my knee by over doing it on a leg press at the YMCA. It was sore so I did not work out for a couple weeks. Then when I got up from a low chair, something got way worse. I could not put any weight on my leg and used crutches I had for a week. Now it has very slowly been improving, but I still have some pain, mostly on the outer side of my thigh and going down to the outside of my knee. It has been about 7 weeks since I first hurt it doing the leg press. Some people think it is my acl tendon. I have not gone to a doctor yet because it keeps slowly feeling better. I have been walking with my leg as straight as possible, and I elevate it. And, I m taking Ibuprophen. All this seems to be helping. A few times, it bucked on me. I still don t really know what is wrong. What do you think it might be? And what should I do?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

1. Avoid using soap or Dettol on that part.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for 5-7 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
