Suggest Treatment For A Persistent Hip Pain

i have been experiencing hip pain constantly for the past week ... xrays revealed mild sclerotic change to the acetabular roof ... the only relief from the pain seems to be when i am sitting or lying down on my left side (the side affected) with my right leg bent up at 90 degrees ... i can do this for a few hours but eventually have to get up and sit in a chair to relieve the pain i get from tossing and turning ... i am 61 yrs old ... i have lower back issues and had prostate cancer surgery in Jan 2012 ... also, my right leg seems to be misaligned by about 10 degrees ... i take acetametaphen and Aleve as was directed, but they seem to have no effect

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. It appears to be osteoarthritis of the hip.
2. You will need to take pain killers for pain. X-ray of hip joint can confirm the diagnosis. Physiotherapy and joint muscle strengthening exercises will be helpful.
3. As it is persistent, it is possibly severe osteoarthritis, and joint replacement surgery maybe needed. Abnormal misaligned right leg could be cause, however, X-ray is necessary for further evaluation. The cartilage, if completely eroded, painkillers wont be effective. For time being, intra-articular corticosteroid injections can be taken.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
