Suggest Treatment For IPMN In Pancreas

My husband had a acute pancreatic attack in late January. He was diagnosed with IPMN (Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm) They found cysts in the head and tail of the pancreas and pusdocysts in the body of the pancreas. In the last four weeks with a CT scan they have found elevated cysts in the body and now a 11 cm.cyst in the neck of the pancreas. He is 74 years old with some heart and lung problems and was told to go home and live his life. We have received no advice on how to handle this or of what can be done to alleviate any of this. I have read John Hopkins reports, Mayo Clinic reports so have some idea of what this problem is, but no one will tell us what we can do.With this much involvement is it a low grade dysplasia or moderate or high grade dysplasia? He has had a hiatal hernia that has pushed his left lung out of position into the shoulder and has been on treatment for this hernia for possibly 10 years. Are we not getting answers because the Drs. don t know or is it just a waiting game for them and us?We were told he is not able to withstand any kind of biopsy or surgery at this time because he could not safely tolerate surgery. What is the most suitable method to follow this IPMN?I believe the cyst in the head of the pancreas has increased from 2 cm to 11 cm in a matter of 2 months.

Neurosurgeon 's  Response
Hi,

With a surgical procedure called distal pancreatectomy, it can be treated. If it is smaller than 5mm, then nothing to be worried. Sometimes, it also can be cured with medicine.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Robin Choudhary, Neurosurgeon
