Suggest Treatment For Herpes 1 Infection In The Genital Area Of A Female

I had a breakout on my genitals after shaving. I used an old razor and made some cuts. A couple of days later I developed sores all over the outside. I went doctor and they tell me today that I tested positive for herpes 1. I'm so upset. I don't want to share this with my husband yet as I'm still trying to let it sink in. Is this basically like cold sores but just on genitals?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you are diagnosed with Herpes Simplex Infection over the genital area then it has to be Herpes Simplex Virus 2 that causes genital breakouts as HSV 1 does not cause genital breakouts but it causes oral sores..

So my suggestion to you would be to consult either an Infectious medicine specialist or an Internal Medicine Specialist and get evaluated and get proper investigations done like Viral Swab culture, antigen antibody reaction [IgG & IgM], Polymerase Chain Reaction etc to confirm the diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case if it is herpes infection you will be given antiviral medications like oral Acyclovir, Famicyclovir etc while topical application of anti-viral ointment like acyclovir, valacyclovir can help..
You should also abstain from sex as the infection is contagious and can transmit to your husband..
