Suggest Treatment For HSV-1

Hello. I have recently been diagnosed with hsv although I am not sure which strand. My partner, whom I contracted the virus from has been diagnosed with hsv1. He is the only person I have had any type of sexual contact with. I wanted to know since he is the only person I have had contact with does that mean I also have hsv 1 or is there a possibility that somehow I have hsv2? Thank you!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain as you have diagnosed with HSV and you have got exposed to your partner who had HSV 1, then your chances of getting infected are more probable with HSV 1..
If you are having an outbreak of cold sore on and around your lips and mouth, then it has to be HSV 1 as HSV 1 causes oral sores..

In order to get a confirmation done you need to consult an Infectious Medicine Specialist and get evaluated and he can advise you tests like viral culture, antigen antibody reaction, polymerase chain reaction etc to rule out the exact cause of the infection and treat accordingly..

You can be advised to take a long course of anti viral oral as well as topical medication like Acyclovir, Valacyclovir, Famicyclovier etc..
Avoid intimate contact with other individuals to avoid transmission of infection..
Keep your personal belongings like towels, napkins, glasses etc unshared with others while having an outbreak..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
