Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i was raped and beaten and kidnapped by my ex boyfriend when i was 15 it was a traumatic time im 23 years old and i have never got over it from this day ive had anti depressents even went to a social activity where people had the same problems but it didnt work can i ask for some advise ive tried everything?
I can understand your concern. Persistent anxiety and depressive symptoms after severe trauma like rape and kidnap in your case could occur due to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In PTSD even after passing acute phase of trauma individuals continue to suffer symptoms like depression, anxiety, autonomic arousal, nightmares about events. Conventional antidepressants like Fluoxetine, Sertraline, Venlafaxine etc medicines are commonly used, but you have already used these medicines and still have such symptoms. In this situation I would like to advise you to continue the medicines and attend sessions of Cognitive and Behavior Therapy. Proper evaluation and counselling by a psychologist will help to improve the situation and will correct faulty cognitions. This will help you to keep relaxed and to decrease the bad memories.
Thanks hope this helps you.
