Hi,
Noted the history about an untrained singer, singing for a long time, now getting older but is now missing the notes on certain pitches.
In medical terminology there is once specific disease and this is called ''singer's'' nodules. These are the ones that develop on a particular area on vocal cords and do not allow the vocal cords to close together properly allowing the air to skip and thus the problems that you are facing.
Hence I would advise you the following:
First of all stop singing and speaking loud.
Give rest to the voice and this is most important part of management.
Secondly, consult an ENT Surgeon for
Laryngoscopy to know the exact cause of your problems.
Once the problem is detected the treatment can be medical if there is thickening of vocal cords in the form of
steroids, anti-inflammatory and voice rest.
If the medical treatment for 3 weeks fail or if you have large nodules then you may need surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
