I am a 63 yr old woman with 40yr old liver damage diagnosed 4 yrs ago when I had gastric by-pass now for 2 yrs I have had pain on right side mid section, 4 days ago it started on right side but going down leg to back of knee. I have not been to Dr. because they don t seem to know what is going on. 3 wks. ago I had to go to Oncologist because white platlets were too low, he said that went along with liver disease, unconcerned! Hi
Thank you for contacting healthcare magic.
Chronic liver disease causes platelets to decrease leading to bleeding problems. Platelets are transfused If indicated. If you have low platelets without any bleeding tendency, nothing needs to be done. Platelets are transfused only when patient bleeds or if any invasive procedure or any surgery needs to be done because platelets have very short half life. I would suggest you to consult a medical specialist or hepatologist with liver function test report for further management of liver disease.
Take care
