Suggest Remedy For Weakness And Stiffness In Left Knee After A Sprain

Hi, I had knee sprain two years back. Now my left knee is still weak and I can t run properly. Last year when I showed to a doctor, no problems were found in my bones. But still if I bend my left knee too much, I feel like knee got twisted and joint gets locked. When I try to straighten it, a sound comes and then only it gets back to normal. I am not sure what is wrong. So, can you tell me what is wrong? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the weakness and stiffness involving left knee after a sprain do indicate underlying structural damage at various level with varying degree of involvement. There can be possible damage to:
* Medial or lateral collateral ligament
* Anterior or posterior cruciate ligament
* Medial or lateral meniscus

A detailed physical examination with ortho surgeon are needed to get complete clinical diagnosis to evaluate:
* Anterior and posterior drawer sign
* Medial and lateral meniscal signs
* Range of motion with degree

Support can be obtained with an MRI of the knee for the final tissue diagnosis at microscopic level.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
