Suggest Remedy For Swelling And Tenderness On The Back Of The Hand Post Injury

Hello doctor, I punched a tree out of frustration yesterday and hurt my hand. It is swollen and tender, but no discoloration other than the scratches on my knuckles. It is te See to the touch as to use it, but I can close my hand fully but loosely and do very minor tasks without pain. I was wonder if I should get it checked out.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Tenderness and swelling could be just due to the effect of trauma or internal bleeding which would resolve on its own. However, It can also be a fracture of the small bones of the hand. This needs to be defintely ruled out by talking an X-ray and meeting an orthopaedician. Ability to move the affected part suggests no nerve or tendon involvement in fracture. No discolouration suggests that blood vessel is not affected. All of which does not give a clue on whether there is fracture or not. So it is better to meet an ortho doctor.
