Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes Please, I am 76 and had a scope put down my nose a week ago and the doctor said he wants me to have further evaluation by a surgeon. I have scheduled that but wondered what could cause my voice to change so much. I do have Gerd and take medication but thought I should quit when I have lost 5 inches in height and thought the medication might be adding to that problem. I have started taking the meds again after the first doctor told me to start. Could it be more than just irritation caused by reflux? Thank you so much for your response. Carolyn
There are several reasons for a change in voice. Based on the GERD that you have mentioned, it is possible that you may have vocal cords injury or there may be nodules over the vocal cords.
Acidity can also affect the vocal cords and can cause some change the voice. This may also be seen with esophageal spasms and changes in the muscles around the neck.
The results of the scopy of the throat and vocal cords can get the diagnosis. It would be best to let the doctor suggest the diagnosis and then the next best step.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
