General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Hiccup post cardiac surgery is commonly caused due to nerve irritation caused while passing tracheal tube in throa), to facilitate easy breathing during the procedure. This should go automatically in few days of surgery (5-7). In case it remains, consult your surgeon, hiccup is possible due to digestive problems with excessive gas formation(which irritates diaphragm. Eat light food with sufficient water and fibers. Do not sleep immediately after food.Take enzyme preparations as per your doctor's suggestions.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
