Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I bit my tongue several weeks ago, and i now have a small red sore on the top of my tongue that hurts. I have gargled with salt water a number of yimes, but it looks like some skin has scraped off of my tongue. I like my coffee very hot, as well as foods I eat. should this sore have healed by now?
As per your query a painful sore over the tongue that is caused due to tongue bite seems to be Traumatic ulcer and as you have a habit of taking foods and fluids very hot, it is causing continuous inflammation leading to persistence of a painful ulcer.. You need not to worry as it will be resolved once the irritating factors are removed. Avoid hot and spicy foods and take a soft bland diet..
Apply a numbing gel containing lignocaine or choline salicylate over the ulcer for relief.. Do cold compresses or suck ice for reducing inflammation.. You can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen or Naproxen. Take a multivitamin tablet for 15 days..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
