Suggest Remedy For Pain In Stomach And High Fever

My grandson had pulmanary artesia and heart surgery on April 15th... he had 11 mapcas. During the operation, the doctor accidentally cut into his thoratic duct. We didn t know this until weeks later. the fluid drained onto his outer lining of lungs and collapsed his lungs. They performed surgery a month later to close up the cut opening so they could pull the chest tube out. about a week later, he had bad pains in his stomach, high fever, throwing up.. His gall bladder had gotten infected and they removed it except for a piece that was too close to the liver - so they left that in. They put him on feeds finally after 2 months not being only on IV fluids. They rose his level of intake quickly and had him at 65 mils per hour - bolus feedings. Before all his surgeries he was only taking in 40 mils per hour. He started throwing up and retching Saturday night.. dark brown blood it was tested for. They pulled him off feeds, have taken numerous xrays and put a salem tube in to assist in pumping / draining his stomach fluids to see if it is fresh blood or not.. they can t figure it out.. they are apologizing , but i m not sure how much longer my 9 month old grandson can take.. he is hurting.. please help us...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It sounds like he has been through a lot already. Based on what you have described, it is difficult to say exactly what is causing the pain in his stomach and the high fever. There may be an infection or inflammation in his digestive system or elsewhere in his body.

It is important for his medical team to continue to investigate the cause of his symptoms and to provide appropriate treatment. Depending on the cause, treatment options may include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication, pain management, and other supportive measures.

In the meantime, you can try to help your grandson stay comfortable by keeping him hydrated, providing pain relief as needed, and keeping him calm and relaxed. You can also work closely with his medical team to ensure that he is receiving the best possible care and support.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
