Suggest Remedy For Pain And Bruising In Ribs Under Arms After Falling

I slipped and fell in the bathtub 5 days ago and hit my ribs under my right arm on the side if the tub. It of course was painful initially, and bruised over the next few hours. Then it only hurt if I pressed on the injured spot or if I moved a certain way, never from breathing, even deeply. Earlier today though it started becoming more painful to move and now tonight I am suddenly having very sharp pains when I take anything more than a shallow breath. I don t know if this is normal? Many people online have said that the pain gets worse about a week after the injury due to swelling subsiding and things moving around more. Then slowly getting better over the next 4-6 weeks. Should I go to the doctor and get x-rays? I ve heard there is not much that can be done for a rib injury, but I don t want to take the chance that I might have a punctured lung now.

Hi,Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that you got rib injury .Pain was initially reducing and suddenly it got increase in pain. You are correct in saying that there is not much that can be done for a rib injury.Your pain must have been increased because you might be moving around and movement might have increased pain.It is unlikely to have a punctured lung after a week. However you are much worried so get your x-done to rule out fracture and its complications. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health. Take care.
