Suggest Remedy For Loose Bowel Movement Post Surgery For Colon Cancer

My mom had colon cancer last fall, surgery on Oct.1, 2014, her dr. told her she ll have loose bowel movements for up to a year, she s had so many accidents & has to throw brand new clothes out, etc. What can she do to stop this, it s very frustrating for her, she s 76, had breast cancer twice since 2006 as well, she needed knee surgery after her 1st bout but my dad passed away right in the middle of her chemo, so she doesn t move very fast to get to the bathroom, has to use her walker. I told her to eat cereal, what can she do, thanks.

Thanks for your query.
Sorry to know that your mother is suffering from so many things and the inconvenience one gets out of these problems to make life frustrating.
Large bowel cancer surgery may give loose stools.

I would advise her the following:
-Joint the group of Colon Cancer Survivors so that she would discuss among the survivors how they tackled the problem of loose motions.
-Usually it is the observation of the patient to see what suits her and what does not. A particular food may help her to hold back, others may just give loose stools.
-Use of red meat, some fruits like banana, cereals as you have rightly said, biscuits, she has to have permutations and combinations.
-She can have emergency chair BC if needed.
-Loperamide and such OTC can be used and tried.
