Suggest Remedy For Frost Bite On Lip Post Application Of Ice Pack On Cheek

Hello. My husband had a very bad abscessed tooth and he kept applying ice packs directly on his face. He now has frost bite on his lip. Is there anything he can put on it to help it heal. It really bothers him especially when he shaves. Thank you.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. as per your query frost bite on lip post application of ice pack on cheek is due to localized damage is caused to skin and other tissues due to freezing. Frostbite is most likely to happen in body part those with large exposed areas. Treatment is centered on keeping the body warm and avoiding exposure to cold, damp environments. Maintaining core body temperature warmth is essential. Individual lesions will often resolve with warming, though it often requires days to a few weeks to completely return to normal. Use very little warm compressors. Oral Nifedepine which is a vasodilator is given sometimes in a dose of 20mg twice or thrice daily. You immediately consult dermatologist. There may be some allergy. Blood investigations may be done. Antihistamines, steroids in tapering doses will be helpful to you.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
