Suggest Remedy For Cystic Acne

My 13 year old daughter has severe cystic acne I believe was made worse by using Amnesteen. We have used Prednisone tapering doses x4 now just to control inflammation, started on YAZ oral birth control, Spironolactone and Bactrim. We have had a second opinion at Denver Children s Hospital and they recommended switching from Amnesteen to Myorisan. Both generic forms of Isotretinoin. Her dose is only 40mg/day and she keeps flaring. . Nothing is working and she is only getting worse and has suffered severe scarring. The cystic acne is not on her face but on her shoulders and most severe on her chest. She was worked up by a Pediatric Endocrinologist. All her bloodwork came back normal and ruled out any PCOS or adrenal hyperplasia. We are now looking at Blu light therapy or even using a mild immunosuppressant. Any thoughts?

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of cystic acne on face which is severest form of acne and it occurs when pore in your skin gets clogged, usually with dead skin cells. Sometimes bacteria get trapped inside the pore, too, causing the area to become red and swollen. The biggest factor causing acne is the hormonal change during puberty , androgen hormones stimulate more sebum to be produced and a greater amount of skin cells to proliferate. Exfoliate gently once or twice a day with a salicylic acid-based exfoliant. Apply benzoyl peroxide cream or gel for killing the bacteria in the pore . Wash your face using a mild soap or cleanser and lukewarm water. Blu light therapy and mild immunosuppressant would work for you only after consultation with dermatologist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may prescribe oral antibiotics like clindamycin , Isotretinoin or Hormone Therapy.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
