I am 65, in good general health, no epilepsy or diabetes. Take only Vitamin D, Fish oil tab and a generic Lipitor type med. No heart disease. I have deputrens contractions in my hands that affect my left hand mostly. My 5th digit is unable to straighten. I saw a specialist 2 years ago and he suggested going as long as I was able comfortably before having surgery to help lessen the possibility of having a second surgery in the future. I am able to function fairly well but have definitely lost some motor skills in my hands, demonstrated by dropping things, eye hand coordination is lessened ( i am a watchmaker by trade). The surgeon recommended surgery over other treatments as he felt they are more successful. Is that still true? Are there alternative surgeries or treatments?
