Suggest remedy for bruising on the shin after injury

I got hit on the front of my shin with a line drive while pitching and there was swelling and a huge bruise there now. There is a darker area on the bruise right where my bone goes down and it kind of hurts to walk on it. I put a little pressure on it once and it started tingling. What does this mean?

Hi,

Well, the bruise after traumatic injury is due to rupture or damage to small blood vessels, it causes spillage and accumulation of blood into the soft tissues leading to bruising. Swelling occurs due to inflammation and accumulation of inflammatory fluid and tissue fluid due to injury. Pain while walking is due to injury, but it depends on the intensity of pain that how deep the injury is. In case if you are able to walk well with some pain then chances of bone fracture are less.

But in case if you are unable to put the body weight on the leg for walking then there is a probability of bone fracture and you need to get an X-ray done. So depending on the above explanation you can proceed for treatment. For now you can take pain relievers if pain is too much. You should do alternate warm and cool compresses to reduce swelling and inflammation. You can also apply Heparin gel. Put pillow under the leg while laying down to reduce swelling.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
