Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes Hi What could be causing my son to feel like he is having trouble breathing? He is otherwise in good health and he is 25 years old. He has been feeling this way for over 24 hours now. He has also mentioned chills. And describes the breathing issue as similar to feeling like he has been working out really pushing yourself and the way you feel when you stop. He can breath in and out as normal. Could it be a panic attack? Conserned Mother
Troubled breathing must be evaluated further by clinical examination and relevant investigations.
In your son's case it could be due to acute bronchitis or asthmatic bronchitis as he is also having chills,so infective and allergic component must be ruled out first.
Here,I will not think about the possibility of panic attacks because there would be much more symptoms seen in panic attacks like anxiety, restlessness, nausea or uneasiness, increased heart rate or palpitations with breathing difficulty.
He needs to be evaluated by routine blood counts especially eosinophils and x-ray chest and pulmonary function tests.
He may need to take broncho-dilators with antihistamines.
Consult physician or pulmonologist who will know about it.
