General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Bow legged feet is commonly treated with braces, casts or surgery to correct the abnormality. X-ray is done to assess the location and magnitude of the deformity. The treatment of choice in adolescence and adults is osteotomy. Add plenty of natural vitamin D and calcium to the regular diet. Bracing may be also tried to gradually correct the leg angles. When bracing is not enough, surgery may be recommended.

In most case tibia is treated but in few cases femur and tibia both are treated. In case of moderate deformity osteotomy is fixed with internal fixation and when severe it is fixed with external fixator. It will take around 8 weeks for a person to do leg straightening exercises using crutches. It depends upon the recovery of the patient, it may take 3-6 months to perform normal activity; sometimes it may take a year for the same.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
