Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I got two different opinions for bilateral knee pain for 10 years, which has gotten a little worse. I m 54 and very active. The patella on both knees (x-ray) is on the outside and sitting on bone with no cartilage, reason for pain. One surgeon suggested a Fulkerson Osteotomy, which would give me 12-15 years before replacement and the other suggested cortisone or injection with one of the hyaluronan solutions. Don t know what to do - another opinion? I saw both x-rays and it is obvious that my patella have shifted.
Dear Sir/Madam, Thanks for seeking help on your issue; I have gone through your symptoms, and in my opinion, you are suffering for osteoarthritis, and your patella seems to be involved more which is usually the case its true that osteotomy can give your knee more time, however the improvement in pain following this can be unpredictable. but steroid injection and hyaluronan have no effect in treatment beyond placebo and this has now no more recommended by American ortho association. I hope I have been able to provide you with a satisfactory solution, if you want to clear any doubts about my opinion, feel free to contact. Special note- Any medication prescribed needs to be taken after consultation with your personal doctor only. Thanks Dr. Narender Saini
