I got a floor burn on my foot while playing volleyball and sliding on the floor. I haven t treated it cause I thought It would go away... But now in the shower I saw that the cut itself turned white. It s a puffy texture also... I don t know what to do cause it s really annoying.. And is it an infection...?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for asking us on HCM.

From your question it does sound infected. The floor is teeming with microbes so I would consider it infected. The skin on the heel is thick and a cut on it has to be really thick to turn red or bloody. However, this does not prevent infection from setting in following a skin break on a dirty surface. I am concerned as you said the area is puffy. I am worried that there might be a foreign body (grain of sand, small pebble or dirt) inside your cut.

I suggest you wash the wound with a gentle antiseptic, dress it lightly and see your regular doctor. They will help you check and see if there is a foreign body, lance it if required to remove it and decide whether local or oral antibiotic treatment is required.

Thanks
