Suggest Remedy For Acid Reflux With Heartburn

My boyfriend has been vomiting intensely (not all day, but only a couple of times) and has been nauseaus. When he would try to drink something (ie: ginger ale) he gets repeated hiccups and the "heartburn" doesn't subside with tums or ginger root. He said it feels like acid reflux, but I was unsure if that would cause the nausea or intense vomiting.
