Suggest Remedies For Persistent Lingering Cough

I have had a lingering cough for over 7 weeks now, it is a very deep cough that is worst in the early mornings and late evenings. I have seen my doctor twice now for it, she has given me a nasal spray in case it was post nasal drip as well as hycodan, I have used the nasal spray for over 2 weeks and tried hycodan for about a week, neither have helped. I don t know if I should go back to see the doctor or what I should do, the cough is extremely bothersome and I feel like it causes me to wheeze.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent lingering cough which is due to chronic lung infection and it could be bronchitis. Sometimes it is due to compromised immunity of body as well.

Need not to worry much. I would suggest you to drink plenty of water and keep sipping warm water. Take hot milk rich in turmeric and take inhaled bronchodilators and antihistamine medications. Apply mist humidifiers in room and take cough expectorants as well. You should visit pulmonologist once and get it examined and go for pulmonary function tests and x-ray chest as well to check exact level of infection. Doctor may prescribe salmeterol inhaler along with proper antibiotic course.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
