Suggest Remedies For Opened Incision Site On Breast Post Removal Of Lymph Nodes
My incision from having lymph nodes removed due to breast cancer has opened even more after an ER visit and a high dose of antibiotic treatment 2 weeks ago. The Oncologist said it has formed tunnels and did not say anything about there being an infection. He told me to schedule an appointment with my general surgeon next week. I fear it s infected and it should have been dealt with immediately. The ring of redness around the open incision is still there and there is an odor to it. How do I care for this open incision until I can get to the surgeon on Monday?? So far I ve just been rinsing it with tap water, wiping the surrounding area with alcohol prep pads, then putting a bandage over it.
Thank you for your question. This is a clean surgical wound. The only danger in infection by bacteria. The best way to care for wound is to clean it well with antiseptic use antibiotic cover for prophylaxis. Sometimes when you have cancer of the breast your immunity is low so more care is needed to avoid infection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mutuma Geoffrey Zambezi
