Suggest Remedies For A Bruise On Lower Shin

Yesterday I flew from Prague to Frankfurt and then on to Singapore. I bruised my lower shin about 4 days earlier and it hurt somewhat but the swelling was minimal. However, when I on the flight from Frankfurt to Singapore this bruise really started to hurt, it was hot and my leg swelled. I am in Sing now and I am putting ice on it intermittently but when I take it off the bruise is extremely warm even hot. Is this just a normal reaction after a 13 hour flight with bruising? Thank you Kind regards Stewart

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have been traveling in a sitting position for a long time the pain due to injury has flared up.

You could take over the counter pain relievers (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) tablet Ibuprofen twice a day for three days tablet Acetaminophen thrice a day for three days.

However, once you land it would be better to consult a physician if you have a hematoma (swelling with accumulated blood in it) at the site of injury.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Riyanka Chail, General & Family Physician
