I have sore throat with undulant fever since 3 days ago. The highest body temp recorded was 38 degree celcius. I took metrogyl 200mg X 2 tab TID, beazyme 150,000 USP X 4 tab TID, Panadol CF (PCM 500mg + Pseudoephedrine HCl 30mg + Chlorpheniramine maleate 4mg) X 2 tab BID, Benzydamine hcl 22.5mg gargled q2, a lozenges (Benzydamine hcl 3mg + crtylpyridinium chloride 1.33mg) X 2 tab sucked q3 and an anti-inflammatory drug of Naproxen sodium 550mg X 1 tab TID as a pain killer. After 3 days of those treatment, I found that my sore throat is not getting well but still actively swelling and even more painful. FYI, I have history of frequent recurrent of sore throat (tonsilitis) few years back (at least once a month), and I m thinking of removing my tonsils. I used to treat my sore throats with metrogyl 200mg + amoxy, and perhaps sometimes only a metronidazole alone. The prognosis of my past sore throats was vary; some took about few days to recover, some took up to weeks. Should you advice me on these Query? 1. Should I take an amoxy to combine with the metrogyl? or necessary to change with other drugs? 2. What is your opinion on the removal of my tonsils? 3. Is it possible to have herpes virus as the causative agent to my recurrent sore throat since I have a history of shingles last 2 years. Since then, I still can feel the pain along the dermatomes at my back. 4. Should you recommend me an alternative analgesic which specifically used for sore throat, considering that I still can feel the severe pain now even after taking naproxen sodium 550mg. 5. Is it possible to have the herpes virus remain in the body after the first shingle infection? and thus the virus being an opportunistic causative agent of sore throat, blisters (with pain and itchiness) of my fingers and currently a uveitis with unknown reason? If possible, how to diagnose it? and how to treat it comprehensively. Please advise me, thank you.
