Suggest Medicine For Migraine

Hi Doctor, for a migrane patients if paracetamol 500/650 never clicked & sometimes saridon or dart or suminat25 works. how can we know which medicine is effective? is their any better medicine available? all the check ups and tests have done by specialist and all are ok.

Hello,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for asking your question.

As you are confirmed case of migraine and you had done all the tests, which are normal, so you only require preventive treatment and active treatment during acute attack of migraine.

Prophylactic treatment is required if migraine attacks are more than 2 per month. If i were your treating doctor, i would have advised you to start betablocker (mainly propranolol) and tricyclic antidepressant (mainly amitryptaline, if migraine is severe) for 2 months and then review the condition.

During acute attacks, you can take NSAIDS, Sumatriptan and if its resistant to these than you can take risatriptan, which is newer and very effective drug to control the acute attack of migraine.

As all these are prescription drugs, you need to consult a neurophysician and discuss the treatment guidelines.
