General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history given your father seems to have developed liver injury due to the cholesterol lowering medication Simvastatin. He should stop taking Simvastatin and after consulting his treating doctor an alternate effective but safer medications like Cholestyramine or Nicotinamide may be taken to lower his high cholesterol and triglycerides.

Hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
