Suggest Medication To Help Induce Lactation

Hello Doctor. I m Krithika from Chennai. My baby is 2 months and 18 days old today. After birth, I breastfed him for two days. After that he constantly cried in hunger, when I found that my milk wasn t enough for him and there s no milk coming out. So we opted for formula. It s continuing even now. I consulted a pediatrician last month, and he advised me to go for breastfeeding only. He told the more the baby sucks the more will be the milk production. I tried for a few days. But it didn t work out. I m also using breast pump to express my milk to the baby through bottle. I could only express as little as 50 ml to 70 ml per day thru pumping. I m having leptaden 4 tablets per day. Kindly advice me what should I do to increase my milk production. People around me always say mother milk is the best food and making me feel guilty whenever I feed him formula. Kindly advise on this. Thank You.

Hello

Thank you for posting at HCM.

I understand your concern. Your pediatrician advises you good that atleast for first 6 months, mothers milk is best for the child as it contains all necessary ingredients for proper growth of the child during this period.

You can continue taking leptaden , and add Shatari poweder in milk 4-6 times a day till milk product increases, and then continue it TDS for next 30 days.

For baby for the time being you can switch to Similac Advance Stage 1, as if you are giving some other food its probably deficient in Iron(you can consult your pediatrician regarding this, to assess allergies and other things).

There are many other medicines available by the category of Galactogogues which help in milk production. Just take care of baby's iron intake as thats the one which is usually deficient in many formula feeds.

Hope to have helped you. Wish you good luck and health

thanks.
