Suggest Medication For Appetite Stimulation

My 88 year old Mother has not eaten solid food for 6 week but does eat pouches (4 oz) of baby food 2 or 3 times daily and drinks some apple juice, tea and Boost. Why would her psychiatrist prescribe Zyprexa 2.5 mg to stimulate her appetite at her age? Isn t there a less dangerous alternative treatment?

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, the underlying cause of the symptoms is matter of concern if she is not taking any solid food it could be the esophagus disease, just to stimulate the appetite is not the option for the concern matter that you have but such a case need extreme medical attention looking to her age and the symptoms she has, diagnosis is important then comes the treatment hope this information helps.
