General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern for your child.
Adenoid is a lymphoid organ which becomes enlarged due to infections of upper respiratory tract. It is very common in children.
Adenoid has to be removed only if it is causing obstruction and difficulty in breathing. Other wise it does not require removal as it confers natural immunity.
In case it is mildly enlarged, you can manage with decongestant syrups containing Chlorpheneramine maleate and phenylephrine. In case of infection, it needs to he treated with a course of antibiotics.
Avoid cold items like refrigerated water, cool drinks and ice creams.
Hope the information provided is helpful.
All the best.
