Suggest Cure For Left Sided Lower Abdominal Pain

Female, age 48. I started having lower abdominal pain (left side only) two days ago. Stabbing pains have gradually worsened, my stools have become really soft and there s swelling/lumpiness where I believe my ovary is located. I haven t had a cyst for many years and do not menstruate (uterin ablation in 2012). Would a visit to urgent care be advised?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

1. you need to get evaluated by a gynecologist
2. ultrasound abdomen and pelvis is a must
3. since uterine ablation in 2012, the lower abdominal lump may be a hydrosalphinx or uterine mass
4. get CA 125 checked if there is a ovarian cyst on ultrasound and is suspicious on any malignancy
5.get a bilateral mammogram since you are more than 40 years, screening method for women >40 years

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
