Suggest Cause Of Respiratory Infection In Baby

my 4 week old niece is in the hospital with a respiratory infection. They have her on a breathing machine because of all the mucous in her lungs. how does an infant this little get this? AND should the mother be letting people come over & hold the baby & be taking her outside for example to a kids birthday party?

Hi, If I were your treating Doctor for this severe case , I would not recommend contact baby with lots of people. If they come they can easily wear masks and don't share with their bacteria. The most common cause is viral infection-RSV,Adenovirus,Parainfluenza and etc. Mother should walk side from people to avoid contact with infected people, because they will not tell if they are sick.
