Suggest Better Treatment For Gum Infection

I had a gum infection in March and went to a dental clinic at Nova Southwestern University March 19. I was told that the infection was caused by food trapped between teeth. The site was cleaned and irrigated and the dentist removed a piece of foreign material. I was instructed how to use the interdental brush and I was prescribed chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse. The dentist recommended that I return in the fall to have my crown removed and redone because there is a ridge that is trapping material. I followed the recommendations of the dentist and my condition improved immensely. I finished the oral rinse about a week ago but I continued to use the interdental brush. Unfortunately my infection came back yesterday - same location. I am returning to Canada this Wednesday. It is unlikely that I can get an apt at the clinic as I had to wait several days the first time to be seen. Do you advise me to see a periodontist or will a regular dentist do, upon returning to Canada. In the meantime, I renewed the prescription for the oral rinse and use it twice a day. Is there any other treatment you can recommend until I get back to Canada?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your query if the infection reversed again there must be still some food entrapping in that area and causing infection..

You can continue with the oral rinses and flossing and try to keep that area clean by gargling after each meal and with plane water whenever you eat anything..

Other thing that you can do is that you can visit a general dentist and just get cleaning of that area if you have less time so that the source of infection will be removed and you will get relieved until you come back from Canada..

A general dentist can very well clean your gums and can give you antibiotic medicines like metronidazole as well as gum paint so that you can have a pleasant and infection free time in canada..

Brush your teeth twice a day once in morning and other before sleeping..

Keep yourself well hydrated..

Taking Vitamin C containing lozanges are very good for gum health.. One a day should be taken..

Doing all this will be very helpful till you find time to come back and consult a periodontist..

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
