Suggest An Effective Alternative Of Losartan

My wife is almost out of her Losartan 50 mg. pills. We have just moved from Texas to Oregon. The pharmacy has not received approval for her meds as her doctors office closes early on Friday. She only has enough for one more day. We can likely get it refilled on Monday. Meanwhile, I am on Carvidilol 12.5 mg. and Amlodipine-Benazepril 10-20, could she take one of those until Monday to get by?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Very likely it will not be a major problem if she does not have the pill for only a few days. On the other hand, she can take amlodipine-benazepril (that you are using) as it contains a medication similar to Losartan. The only problem with it would be if she has had cough from blood pressure medications, in this case, very likely it was a drug similar to benazepril and she may get cough again. The cough subsides when the drug is stopped, so very likely she will be ok to take amlodipine-benazepril for a few days and then soon go back to Losartan.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
