When one of my patients has problems with atorvastatin I usually try either a lower dose of atorvastatin (if feasible) or a less potent statin like pravastatin. Sometimes the side effects disappear. In other cases the side effects still occur with pravastatin. Another potential choice is ezetimibe which is not a statin but it does improve the lipid profile (although not as much as a statin). Your doctor should decide whether you should definitely use another drug or you should just quit the lipid lowering treatment.
