Suggest An Advanced Method Of Treatment For Pain In The Lumbar Region

My wife s been told she has very little of the cartilege between her 4th/5th lumbar joints, which is causing her pain. As a result, she is about to begin having cortisone injections in the lumbar area. I personally have had little success with a simliar procedure. So, I wonder if the technique of injecting a substance (micro gel?)into the lumbar area is available here in Indiana.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If the disc is degenerated and almost gone, there are minimally invasive options to restore the intervertebral height by replacing the disc with dynamic artificial intervertebral disc. Microgel (mainly metil metacrilate) injections between vertebrae to replace the damaged discs are still being studied.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
