Suggest An OTC Medication For Pancreatic Enzyme Deficiency

My sister had stage 3 pancreatic cancer in 2012. she is a very luck woman and is cancer free to date. Unfortunately, she has a pancreatic enzyme deficiency due to undergoing the Whipple procedure and is losing weight and causing digestive problems. She has been given a prescription for Creon. Unfortunately it is $800 a bottle and insurance does not cover it. she has a fixed income and has medicare and medicaid. Is there an over the counter replacement for a pancreatic enzyme defiency she might be able to substitute for this med?

Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

Creon is extremely costly and many patients have difficulty to afford it without insurance. You can try cheaper alternatives like “Panlipase” or “Enzar” whiz has got similar efficacy as that of Creon.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
