I was using Reclide 40mg after Breakfaast & dinner and Pioglit MF15 after Lunch.Yesterday, I had undergone C-Peptide test & HBA1c yester day.Beta cell reserves are Poor & HBA1c was 8.4.My Doctor preascribed Gemer2 & Vilobo M 0.3(1 each) before Breakfaast & dinner. Both tablets contain 500mg Metformin. My query is , can a lean type diabetic take 2000mg of Metformin a day.Any alternatives available for Metformin? Pl advise.

Dear siva
I can understand your concern
I agree with your point on metformin usually it's not advisable to give metformin more than 1000 mg in a lean diabetes individual how ever exceptional cases are there.
in my opinion you are already on pioglitazone which works similar to metformin to reduce insulin resistence. As metformin is associated with weight loss taking higher dose of metformin will further reduce your weight.
which is nor desirable as per your height and weight.
the medication gemer contains glimipride which will stimulate your beta cells and produce insulin.
since you are having poor beta cell reserve so this kind of stimulation will make your beta cells to die soon.
I suggest you to continue reclide and metformin 1000 mg divided in two doses.
along with above consider new medications like Januvia or jalra. This medications help in recovery of beta cells.

Thank you for your query
Your sugar control is very bad because of this reason your treating physician had increased your diabetic medications moreover the maximum dosage of metformin is 2000mg if I were your treating physician I would have gone for ppg.3 mg instead of( voglibose and metformin)vilobo m .3
Another thing as a diabetic you have to have a regular exercise
Must have a regular timely diet pattern
And regular intake of your diabetes medications.
These above things when done together will keep your sugar level under control.hope this explains.
