Suggest Alternate Medications For Amlodipine And Doxazosin To Regulate BP

I am on amlodipine 10mg for blood pressure my BP is regularly around 99/148. I have now been given Doxazosin 1mg to go with it but after looking on line I am reluctant to take it. Is there anything else that could be as effective without the wide range of side effects. I also note that amlodipine may have been banned in Holland.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
The both are well tested medicines and have proven their safety over time. Every drug has its side effects and what's worth noting is that majority of the population doesn't experience any of them.
Still if you are worried, carvedilol would be a nice choice as it has the properties of doxazosin as well as a good bp lowering effect. It is started in the dose of 3.125 mg or 6.25mg twice daily and then increased to 12.5 or 25 mg, according to the patients BP. Dose must be increased after 2 weeks intervals until target bp is achieved.
