Stress at work, waking up at mid night, heart pounding faster than normal. On atenolol 50mg for high bp. Could it be the tablets?

I take atenolol 50mg a day for high blood pressure which was originally due to stress at work, since then I have changed jobs, so not sure if I should be on them now, but recently (last 3-4 weeks) I ve been waking up at around 1am after 4hrs sleep and feel my heart is pounding faster than normal. Could it be the tablets?

Hi, Paula,
Thanks for query.
You should not stop the medicine even your stress is no more.
Keep BP record and observe and afterwards your doctor will put on maintenance dose.
This medicine may slow down the pulse rate rather than increasing.
Ok and bye.
