Small Bump On Arm With Red Line Going Through Vein, Pain In Vein And Arm. History Of IV Followed With Bruise On Arm. Advice
I have a small bump on my right lower arm that has a redish line going up my arm following the same path as my vein and my vein is hard to the touch and my arm hurts to touch. I had a bad IV which blew about a week and a half ago and left a very big bruise up higher on my arm and now this is happening and the bump has moved. Should I see a Dr for this or go to the ER?
Hi ! From your history and findings as narrated by you, it seems that initially there was a formation of hematoma at the IV site, which got infected and the infection spread causing infection and inflammation of the superficial veins(superficial thrombo-phlebitis. I would suggest you to get yourself reviewed by your treating doctor, who may prescribe for you some anti inflammatory drugs, and an antibiotic for the same. This will relieve of your inflammatory symptoms even though the swelling in the vein may remain as a cord for some time. Wishing you an early recovery.
