Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking Keterolac for lower back pain. It was a 10 tablet prescription given to me on Sunday following a shot of the drug. I will complete the script tomorrow.
I am taking an international flight from Chicago to Amman Jordan tomorrow evening (about 10-11 hour flight). I will take my last pill before boarding the plane. When I arrive in Amman, if I still have back pain could I take over the counter Ibuprofen as follow up?
Short answer: Yes, you may need to take ibuprofen.
Detailed answer: If you will have backaches, I recommend you to take 200 to 400 mg orally every 4 to 6 hours as needed, doses greater than 400 mg have not been proven to provide greater efficacy.
As you said, the flight will lasts 10-11 hours, while Ibuprofen effect lasts 4-6 hours, so a second tablet may be needed for you if you will have backache. The second tablet you may take after the catering service on the plane or when you change the plane, if it isn't a direct flight.
Wish you a good flight!
