Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should Femur Surgery With Metal Plate Insertion Be Done Immediately?
I fractured my femur in a fall five yrs ago. It required a complete hip replacement and they wired around the femur. I have been experiencing pain when I lay on that side now but not when I walk or sit. My orthopedist took x rays and told me the wires have broken. He wants to do surgery quickly and put a plate in there and remove the wires. He is afraid of infection. Should I have this surgery or is it possible to live with it?
I have studied your case and I think it is better to get this surgery as soon as possible because if wires are not there that means that all your stress when you are walking or running is coming on the hip joint . It may lead to premature failure of the hip replacement and may be a revision of the hip joint as well. So My recommendation is to get your hip replacement surgery as soon as possible and you will be free of pain and also your hip joint will last more longer.
